Del Borgo wine & dine
Del Borgo, in the historical city of Vittoriosa also known as Birgu, is a hidden gem. Strolling in the pretty alleyway leading to the entrance is like taking a walk back in time. Go down a few steps into this cool high-vaulted cellar which was the servants’ quarters of a centuries’ old palace. Notice the original historical workbench, still being used today, and the wine cellar, kept ambient by the high ceilings and the well below it. Being originally and primarily a wine bar, Del Borgo is very serious about its vast selection of wines! Take your time to browse the wine menu carefully curated into sections of champagne, sparkling, reds, rose and whites and then by geographical region. —¯
Del Borgo serves lavish cheese, cured meats, Maltese and fried hot food platters and a variety of other divine dishes with a Maltese touch. Taste crunchy homemade arancini or tasty Onion Bhaji with sauces. Try the original Ä unÄ¡lien, meaning sesame, a baked Maltese loaf of bread stuffed with pork and ricotta and smothered in sesame seeds. Enjoy al dente Pappardelle with Maltese sausage, sundried tomatoes and cream or Panzerotti filled with porcini pâté or opt for a special of the day like ravioli filled with grouper and topped with fish velouté. Crown your meal with a dessert like warm Imqaret – which traditional date-filled pastries – with ice cream, or homemade Maltese bread pudding.
