DistrictFive
When DistrictFive opened their culinary jewel in the heart of BirżebbuÄ¡a – complete with Olympic sized swimming pool, chic sun loungers and comfy sofas – its popularity was a testament to the fact that the south was in dire need of such a stylish venue. Set on the promenade overlooking the sea, this most welcome newcomer to the southern dining scene offers an on trend distinct decor of greige soft furnishings and elegant leather booths surrounding an impressive oversize copper furnace in its spacious circular dining room. Go by day and spend time lounging by the pool, enjoying a hearty meal at a reduced rate; go by night and dine alfresco as you wonder at the twinkling lights giving the bustling Freeport an otherworldly look. The restrooms are top-notch and definitely worth a visit!
Competent service achieves that elusive balance between being attentive without being intrusive. The comprehensive menu ensures that all tastes are catered for. Originally presented overflowing from a battered copper tumbler, the fritto misto – a selection of prawns, calamari and baby octopus, is both crisp and varied. An exquisite apple sauce balances the subtle flavour of succulent slow cooked pork belly. The lavish portions enjoyed against subtle background music, whilst watching the pizzaiolo at work, have ensured a steady stream of regulars which shows no sign of abating. And finally, trying to resist the mouth-watering selection from the dessert display brought to your table, is futile – and a guarantee that your first visit to DistrictFive will certainly not be your last!
