da Luigi Restaurant

A "gem hidden on the outskirts of Rabat", with "great" and "genuine" food.

Da Luigi is a cosily small restaurant in Rabat. The tables outdoors and the few indoors overlook an abundance of fields, trees and greenery which add magic to meals enjoyed there. Louis, the chef-patron, serves flavourful food and is assisted by several members of his clan, giving the word family-run true significance. The restaurant is on two storeys with well laid out tables and comfortable seating. The décor essentially consists of some oversized mirrors which give a feeling of added space with an eclectic twist.

The food at da Luigi is an absolute joy and prepared with passion. Ingredients are all meticulously sourced and used to good advantage in the dishes. The tortellacci porcini is a surprising concoction of tastes. The pasta texture is just as pasta has to be and the sauce with mushrooms and black truffle cream make this dish quite outstanding. The prawn tempura is also a delight. For da Luigi’s piéce de résistance, the chicken supreme is by far the victor. Succulent, sizzling and perfectly cooked. You cut into the meat, and it oozes taste. The angus beef tagliata is another dish worth indulging in. Finish off the meal with the da Luigi tiramisu, a light but tasty ending to a meal which proves that small can be wonderful.
