Mitħna
Mitħna is the Maltese word for windmill, and this remarkable restaurant is housed within a beautifully preserved 17th-century flour mill; it is a protected historical landmark that offers a truly unique dining experience. The original stone arches, limestone walls, muted lights and traditional Maltese floor tiles create a charming and atmospheric setting and in winter the warmth from the crackling fireplace enhances the already magical ambience. A large walk in wine cooler room at the entrance hints at how serious Mitħna is about their wines. The restaurant’s spacious layout includes both indoor and outdoor dining areas, with dedicated sections for different occasions including a private room ideal for family gatherings or professional events.
Mitħna serves an enticing variety of dishes including traditional Maltese cuisine cooked to perfection and superbly plated. Start off with bebbux – local snails (escargot) in tomatoes and herbs then try the rich seafood soup: a broth packed with seafood and chunks of fish or enjoy garganelli pasta al dente with succulent lamb ragu. For mains savour the local rabbit fried in garlic swimming in gravy or the tasty fresh local tender fish of the day accompanied by your choice of potatoes and chunky vegetables and fresh bread for dipping! For dessert don’t miss out on the pudina – Maltese bread pudding served with custard or the truly decadent creme brûlée followed by coffees and liqueurs.
