El Catalan

A "great restaurant" with absolutely "delicious food".

It’s said that many treasures take time to find and this could certainly be said of El Catalan. Look no further, it’s here. Set back from the coastline with a spacious outdoor terrace adjacent to small playground, it offers a contemporary, low lit interior split over two areas and a comfortable style for any special event. It’s easy to relax with an excellent list of international wines and ponder a creative menu of local and Spanish dishes that strays from the norm with great success.

The menu covers many areas with a twist. ‘Tapas’ starters range from platters and Rosemary Focaccia to Sweet Potato and Chickpea Soup. The Fried Goat Cheese Bites are exceptional. Pasta is also served in starter portions. Perhaps the Catalan Beef Pasta might interest, or the ricotta ravioli, which looked great. Fresh fish features heavily in many forms. A trio of seabass, salmon and swordfish fillets with king prawns is beautifully garnished, like all dishes, and served with side orders of crunchy salad, bacon cabbage and fried or roast potatoes. A great selection of pizza is available from the stone oven, as well as various grilled prime meats and ribs. The Beef Tagliata with cherry tomatoes and rucola is a definite must. The desserts are fantastic. A good choice is the Maltese trifle, but contends with other delicious puddings and ice-creams.
