Casa Sotto Pinsa Romana Valletta

A "truly exceptional menu" with "light, flavourful, and perfectly balanced".

Round the corner from St George’s Square (or Palace Square) and beneath the same square lies Casa Sotto Pinsa Romana, which resonates with the architectural magnificence of Valletta. The vaulted ceiling, the yellow-hued limestone, the wooden benches resting against the walls – all add to the aesthetic experience while dining here. The design is simple, with several bottles of wine lining the walls and adding a touch of Italy. The service is welcoming, efficient and with an ever-present smile. Both at lunchtime and in the evening, the place resonates with a buzz which gives diners a good feeling of fun. There are very few tables outside, bringing you closer to the people going round the capital city.

The real buzz at Casa Sotto, however, is their main dish, the pizza – or rather the Pinsa Romana. Pinsa is the Roman answer to the Neapolitan pizza with a mouthwatering twist. It’s lighter, crisper, has an oval shape, and the one at Casa Sotto is especially flavourful. Try the Cacio Pepe with pecorino and lots of pepper, the Quattro Formaggi (four cheeses), or the Pantheon with mozzarella, porcini, guanciale (pork cheek) and pecorino. For starters try the Supplì (riceballs), the zucchini flowers, or one of their fresh and tasty salads. To end your Casa Sotto meal, go for the renowned Tiramisù, another perfect piece of Italy in the heart of Valletta.
